Jeremy.

I’ve thought a lot about how to address the trauma and immense grief that I and the rest of the YES Abroad cohort has experienced since...

Snorkel Man

When I say that no part of my life here in Morocco has been normal, I mean it. And I love it (except the strange men). Today, Mira and I...

The Devil's Holiday

Yesterday was Halloween and I spent the day with Meriem, the best language partner in the entire world. Seriously. Don’t even try to...

Notes on My Daily Moroccan Life, Part 9.

ABOUT

A thorough, overly-wordy recount of my life abroad in Rabat, Morocco, for the 2019-2020 academic year.

I was fortunate enough to receive a full scholarship from the US Department of State, through YES Abroad, that allows me to live with a host family in Morocco, study at a local high school (where the classes will be taught in French), and also attend a highly prestigious language institute called Amideast, where I will be studying Darija (the Moroccan dialect of Arabic) and Modern Standard Arabic!

Along the way, I hope to learn about Islam as well as other major aspects of Northern African society, make friends, join a local gym/sports team, and enjoy Moroccan cuisine.

I do not plan on purchasing data for my phone because I want to be IN Morocco, when I'm in Morocco, but you can contact me by email or Whatsapp if you wish! I have also terminated my veganism so I can try common Moroccan dishes including those containing goat and sheep (Sorry Clover and Bo).

That's all, folks! Let me know if you have any questions, and 'arak lahqa!

-Madeleine
