Tennis??? In Morocco?!

There’s a joke that the most popular sport in Morocco is tennis even though nobody plays this sport. Allow me to explain. Man cafes are a difficult concept to grasp, but essentially there are tons and tons of cafes on every street (5 on my street alone) and the majority are just for men. It isn’t technically a rule, but it’s a thing. The man cafes have chairs facing outside, or outside facing the sidewalk, and men sit there all day every day watching women go by. It’s super creepy and obviously predatory and none of them have any shame. Most have wives, too. That’s the best spot to be catcalled and harassed, in my opinion. Although the tourist spots are prime, too. Anyways, because they are watching women go back and forth, it’s like watching a tennis match. Thus, tennis is the most popular sport in Morocco.
